First Bloom of the Season!

Witch Hazel is native to North America...

Traditionally, Witch Hazel is yellow in color,
and from a distance it is sometimes mistaken for early blooming Forsythia.

This is a cultivar named "Diane," which I planted in April, 2006.
I chose this one for its orange hues.

The blooms are not true flowers,
but do indeed resemble the gnarled fingers of a witch!
